Herbert Hans Grüntker, chairman of the Frankfurter Sparkasse, started the largest professional and age-grouper field in 10 years of the Frankfurt Ironman history.. 58 professionals and 2,450 age-group athletes raced the “longest day of the year“, which there was the challenge of 3.8 km swimming, 180 km cycling and a marathon final of 42.2 km. Since the first race in 2002 the IRONMAN was called European Championship since 6 years.
